In a move to counter the growing influence of LGBT advocacy within international institutions, a coalition of politicians, diplomats, and pro-life advocates convened in New York. The gathering, known as the Global Forum for Life, Family and Freedoms, aimed to establish a new diplomatic entity within the United Nations framework.
Held from September 17 to 18, the forum was organized in response to the UN’s LGBTI Core Group, which comprises 40 countries and directs substantial funding toward pro-LGBT initiatives globally. The organizers propose creating a Pro-Life Core Group to serve as a diplomatic counterweight, enabling pro-life and pro-family nations to coordinate and promote their perspectives internationally, according to Evangelical Focus.
The event attracted various pro-family organizations and featured a notable appearance by US Under-Secretary of State, Christopher Landau.
Central to the discussions was the Geneva Consensus Declaration (GCD), which asserts that there is no global right to abortion, recognizes the family as society’s fundamental unit, and supports the sovereignty of nations in determining their health policies. More than 40 countries support the GCD, with the United States playing a leading role as the secretariat.
The New York assembly sought to transform the declaration’s principles into a coordinated international effort advocating for pro-life and pro-family causes. Efforts are underway to form a convening committee and pursue official recognition from the United Nations.
The faith-driven nature of the forum was evident, as organizers frequently referred to it as “an adventure of faith,” with participants expressing hope for divine blessing in their endeavors.
