Event to Offer Hope After Tragedy at Utah Valley University

A significant gathering is set to occur at Utah Valley University, where Christian activist Charlie Kirk tragically lost his life. Pastor Greg Laurie plans to lead a Harvest Crusade event titled “Hope for America” on November 16, drawing an anticipated 10,000 participants.

The event at Utah Valley University follows the September 10 shooting during a Turning Point USA event that claimed Kirk’s life. Amidst community grief, Laurie decided to advance a planned 2027 event to offer immediate support to the local community.

“We immediately reached out to the Utah pastors to offer our support. We asked if there was anything we could do. They responded, ‘Come sooner. Our community is hurting,’” Laurie explained, outlining the urgency felt by Harvest Crusades to adapt their typical year-long planning process to the immediate needs of the community.

Laurie confirmed that although Turning Point USA (TPUSA) is not involved in organizing the event, they support the initiative. Laurie had previously spoken at a TPUSA Faith event in California and appeared on The Charlie Kirk Show to discuss the upcoming crusade.

Laurie expressed his admiration for Kirk’s work, stating, “I have long admired Charlie’s incredible work reaching young people and have been a strong supporter of it.”

The event will see participation from over 60 Utah congregations hosting livestream gatherings, aiming to deliver the Gospel’s message on a large scale. Laurie emphasized, “Our goal is simple and urgent: to reach as many people as possible with the life-changing message of the Gospel.”

Pastor Lucas Miles of TPUSA Faith praised Laurie’s efforts, noting, “His boldness in bringing the Gospel to hurting communities like Utah Valley University is exactly what America needs right now. It is a clear and unapologetic message of hope, redemption and truth found only in Jesus Christ.”

Charlie Kirk, aged 31, was shot during his “America Comeback Tour” at the university. The suspect, Tyler James Robinson, was arrested 33 hours later and is facing multiple charges, including aggravated murder.

Robinson was accused of targeting Kirk over his conservative Christian views, particularly on transgender issues. The charges against him are detailed in court documents.
