When paramedics arrived within seconds of a 911 call in early June, they found 28-year-old Ethan Preseau unconscious outside his new Pensacola home. What followed was a medical crisis that would push his family’s faith to its absolute limit, culminating in what doctors and loved ones can only describe as a miraculous awakening.

The Navy veteran had just relocated to Florida with his girlfriend, Piper Wade, to start a fresh chapter together. While unpacking their belongings, Ethan walked out to his truck to retrieve a suitcase but never returned. When Piper went to check on him, she discovered him lying on the ground, completely unresponsive.

“You don’t want to see someone that you love in that state. So I just freaked out and I immediately — I don’t know CPR, but I understand what it is, so I tried to do that for a second. But I realized I don’t know what I’m doing, so I ran inside as fast as possible and I called 911 and they were there so fast. Maybe in like 30 seconds they were there,” Piper told local news outlets.

A devastating diagnosis

After emergency transport to the hospital, medical professionals determined that Ethan was suffering from a serious heart infection. His condition rapidly deteriorated, requiring life support systems to keep him alive. Days passed with no signs of improvement.

Brain imaging revealed catastrophic damage. His stepmother, Denice Preseau, recalled the devastating medical findings: “When they did the brain MRI, the MRI showed that the thalamus was black and dead. So we had absolutely no hope.”

Faced with the stark reality of Ethan’s prognosis, the family began making funeral arrangements and preparing to withdraw life support.

A desperate plea for time

Before the final decision was made, Piper made an urgent request to medical staff: give Ethan 10 additional days. The family committed to spending that time in prayer, asking for divine intervention despite the hopeless medical outlook.

On the tenth day, family members assembled at the hospital to say their final farewells. Medical personnel removed Ethan from life support and conducted a ceremonial walk of honor through the hospital corridors—a solemn tradition honoring those who have passed.

But hours later, the hospital contacted the family with stunning news: Ethan had regained consciousness.

An unexpected awakening

Denice documented the remarkable moment on the family’s GoFundMe page. “Miraculously, when they walked in, Ethan was awake! He followed his father across the room with his eyes, turned his head and smiled. He stuck his tongue out for the nurses three times. He raised his arm and squeezed his father’s fingers. He tried for a thumbs up. Ethan was back! The doctors say that his organs are all fine, but that he had initially suffered an infection to the heart.”

The family attributes Ethan’s recovery entirely to divine intervention. “We have witnessed a miracle! God obviously has more in store for Ethan, Piper and their newly bonded family. He has come through a major medical miracle!” Denice wrote.

She concluded her update by citing Jeremiah 32:27: “For I am Jehovah, the God of all flesh; is anything too hard for me?”

Ethan is currently undergoing rehabilitation as he continues his recovery. The family has asked for continued prayers as he works to regain his strength and abilities following his extraordinary survival.
