Controversy Surrounds Pastor’s Attire During Sermon on Faith
Tulsa’s Transformation Church’s lead pastor, Michael Todd, delivered a powerful sermon that some attendees found overshadowed by his choice of attire. The message, part of a new series titled “MUSTARD: The Seed That Can Change Everything,” focused on five key aspects where believers should not squander their faith.
Pastor Todd’s outfit, described by some as reminiscent of an “auntie” or “English teacher,” became a talking point. His ensemble included wide-leg black slacks, a form-fitting black tank or T-shirt, a mustard-colored leather short-sleeve button-up shirt, and striking mustard and black-colored snakeskin boots, which some compared to “high heels.”
During his sermon, Todd emphasized: “If you downgrade or devalue what faith can produce, you’ll never use it right. One of the biggest epidemics in the body of Christ right now is people use their faith wrong,” urging followers not to spend faith on matters that discipline could resolve. His advice included, “Don’t waste your faith on things discipline can delete,” further illustrating with an example related to health and dietary habits.
However, the attention drawn to his attire led to mixed reactions. Alton T. Johnson, a Christian YouTuber, criticized Todd’s fashion choices, saying, “When you teach against biblical headship, ‘you can do bad all by yourself,’ ‘women can be pastors,’ ‘divine feminine,’ ‘I’m momma and daddy,’ you get Mike Todd,” in a post on X.
Conservative media host Jason Whitlock also commented, calling Todd’s outfit an “abomination” in a post to his followers.
This isn’t the first instance where Todd’s choices have caused a stir. In 2022, he faced backlash after a sermon in which he performed a dramatized illustration involving spit, later apologizing on Twitter, stating: “It’s never my intention to distract others from God’s Word and the message of Jesus … even with illustrations!”
Despite the criticisms, it remains uncertain what motivated Todd’s clothing choice for the sermon. Transformation Church has not provided any comments regarding the outfit when reached out by The Christian Post.
