An Icon of Mob Dramas, Vincent Pastore, Passes Away at 80
Vincent Pastore, widely recognized for his portrayals of mobsters and tough guys, including the memorable Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on “The Sopranos,” has passed away at the age of 80. His death was confirmed by Bob McGowan, his longtime manager, who was informed by fellow actor Vincent Curatola.
McGowan shared that Pastore was discovered at his home on New York’s City Island after being unreachable for several days. He noted that he had been trying to contact the actor regarding a potential job opportunity.
“He was the most loyal client and he always gave to charity,” McGowan remarked, emphasizing Pastore’s generous nature in the entertainment industry. “He was the kind of guy who would help anybody, which is rare in my business.”
Pastore’s career in film began in the 1980s, with notable roles in acclaimed films such as “Goodfellas” and “Awakenings” in 1990. His talent for portraying gangsters was epitomized in his 30-episode stint on “The Sopranos,” where he played Tony Soprano’s confidant turned FBI informant.
Born in the Bronx and raised in New Rochelle, New York, Pastore’s life journey included service in the Navy during the Vietnam War and subsequent studies at Pace University. He is survived by his daughter, Renee Pastore.
