World-renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli, whose powerful voice has captivated audiences across the globe and led to 45 million album sales, attributes the very purpose of his existence to his unwavering Christian faith. In a candid conversation with EWTN, the Italian singer revealed how his belief in God shapes every facet of his remarkable life and career.

During an interview with EWTN’s Colm Flynn, conducted at the Andrea Bocelli charity headquarters in Florence, Italy, the celebrated vocalist discussed his spiritual convictions alongside his wife Veronica. The couple opened up about how their shared faith drives both their personal lives and philanthropic endeavors.

Faith as life’s foundation

Bocelli expressed that his entire worldview is built upon belief in eternal life and a divine creator. “If life didn’t exist, an eternal life, a life after life, everything would lose all meaning. So, my faith comes from extremely simple reasoning. I do not believe in the clock without the clockmaker. Therefore, I have faith. I have a lot of faith in the one who made the world,” he explained to Flynn.

The tenor emphasized his gratitude for the blessings he has received, including his family, children, and successful musical career. “Whoever puts his life in the hands of the one who created it, who wants him, desires and loves him, puts their life in good hands,” he stated.

An uncertain path to stardom

When discussing his journey to becoming one of the world’s most recognized classical crossover artists, Bocelli admitted he had doubts about achieving success in music. He pursued legal studies as a contingency plan, unsure whether a singing career would materialize.

“Success is an accident on the road. Things happen because there is a grand design,” he said when asked about his career as a singer. “So much has been given to me. I have been given a unified family that has supported me and loved me. I have had a life of rich possibilities, of experiences….so much received, so there is so much I should try to give.”

Turning compassion into action

The Andrea Bocelli Foundation was born from a moment of profound compassion. Bocelli explained that after his wife Veronica was deeply affected by the devastating earthquake in Haiti, they decided to channel their resources toward helping those in crisis. The foundation focuses on empowering vulnerable populations worldwide, with particular emphasis on providing educational opportunities.

“Just to be together to do something good for somebody else, then God is there,” Veronica shared during the interview.

Looking toward the future, Veronica expressed optimism about expanding their charitable work. “Whatever we have been able to achieve during the past years,” she continued. “Is just the kick off for what we can do in the future.”
