A heartfelt message about prayer from an elderly woman named Esther has captured the attention of millions online after being shared by her daughter, Jennifer Walker Smith, on Facebook.
The video, which has accumulated more than 3.5 million views, features Esther addressing a struggle that resonates with many believers: the feeling that God seems distant or unresponsive to prayer.
Addressing doubts about prayer
“We’ve all had the experience some time that seems like God is so far away,” she begins. “And maybe he’s not listening. Nothing happens. He’s so quiet, and we wonder, ‘Does it matter that I pray?'”
Esther challenges this mindset by questioning whether people truly understand the nature of the God they’re addressing. She describes it as “pathetic” when believers ask themselves, “Can God take care of this?”
A reminder not to limit God
Drawing from Psalm 78, which discusses the concept of limiting God, Esther shares a personal practice that guides her faith. “I have written at the top of my Bible, ‘Esther, do not limit God,'” she explains.
She poses powerful questions to her audience: “Do you know who he is? Do you know who you’re talking to?”
These words speak to a common concern among believers who sometimes question whether God still performs miracles today as He did in biblical times.
Encouragement to persist in prayer
Esther’s message emphasizes perseverance and faith in God’s generosity and power. “He’s the great giver. And there’s nothing too hard for him. Don’t give up. Keep on knocking. Keep on asking. Keep on praying. He’s listening. He’s listening,” she encourages.
Her teaching provides reassurance to those who may be experiencing spiritual doubt, reminding them that persistent prayer combined with unwavering belief in Jesus Christ will be answered according to God’s will.
