Amidst growing calls for transparency within the Republican Party, President Trump has publicly advocated for the release of the Epstein files. He argues that there is “nothing to hide” and suggests that the Democrats’ push against this transparency is a “Democrat Hoax” aimed at overshadowing the “Great Success of the Republican Party.” Trump’s comments were shared through a Truth Social post on Sunday evening.
The issue has become a point of contention within the party, with Trump facing internal pressure to fulfill his campaign promise to disclose investigative files related to Jeffrey Epstein. The president’s decision to withdraw his support for Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a strong advocate for the files’ release, has highlighted divisions within the GOP. Greene has been a vocal proponent of the vote to make the documents public.
While the administration has shared thousands of private documents with the House Oversight Committee, the Justice Department retains certain files, including key witness interviews that have yet to be publicly disclosed. Some members of the House, including Republicans, are pushing for a vote to release these unclassified files. This vote is scheduled for Tuesday, according to a source familiar with the matter, though the source is not authorized to speak publicly.
The potential for a Senate vote remains uncertain, despite Trump’s apparent support for the House’s efforts. Should the legislative process succeed in both chambers, Trump would be required to approve the release of the documents.
