Rising Power Outages Spur Utility Companies to Bury Power Lines
As climate change continues to escalate the frequency and intensity of severe weather events across the United States, power outages are becoming more prevalent. This has prompted a reevaluation of the nation’s power line infrastructure, particularly the benefits of burying power lines underground. While these buried lines are significantly more reliable than their overhead counterparts, currently only about 20% of the country’s power lines are underground. In northern Michigan, some utility companies are taking steps to address this imbalance.
